RE: your last post: MTE. I was so sad to discover Michelle auditioned for One Day but didn’t get it. I didn’t particularly enjoy the film, it felt rushed, too rough around the edges and I think Anne Hathaway is absolutely bland so the emotions completely fell flat for me. I know that big names carry movies like nothing else but I feel like this particular one could’ve been so much more nuanced with Michelle in it.
I am optimistic about where Michelle’s career is going though. Now that her popularity is skyrocketing as a result of Downton and people left and right are proclaiming her Emmy-worthiness /and/ she’s getting more presence on the big screen, I feel like a more prominent role in something big soon is no longer a pipe dream. Joe Wright clearly sees something in her. I’m sure it won’t be long until somebody braver snaps her up.
Did she actually audition for One Day?
I can understand they wanted an American to attract audience on this side of the Atlantic. The male character of the movie was not appealing, and the only way to make it work is to have the audience fall in love with the female lead. I think Michelle would’ve knocked that out of the park.
One criticism Hathaway received was her lack of a Yorkshire accent, and Michelle is so good with hers. She would have been perfect in that movie. I wouldn’t mind if Dan Stevens played opposite her too. LOL
Despite Joe Wright’s reputation as a womanizer, I love his movies and he knows talent when he sees it. Someday Michelle is going to make us proud on the Oscar podium. For now, I’m just happy I’ll get to see her on the big screen in some fashion.
